Winter Roads Are Here Again

The first snowfall is always a big adjustment for everyone. We all play a part in making our city safe to get around in the winter. Thank you to our snow removal crews for working around the clock.Thank you to all Edmontonians for staying patient on the roads, shovelling sidewalks, helping out your neighbours, moving your vehicles during parking bans. Every bit helps!

For safe roads, bike paths, and neighbourhoods in the winter, Edmontonians and the City are partners.

What you can do:

  • Move your cars off the street during parking bans

  • Work with your neighbours and clear sidewalks as soon as possible. Keep them clear of snow and ice, especially during freeze/thaw cycles

  • Keep your waste collection areas free of snow and ice

  • Sign up for the City's new parking ban notification tool (text and/or email) by visiting edmonton.ca/SafeTravels

  • Participate in the “name a plow” contest by visiting edmonton.ca/SafeTravels

We heard your feedback. The City is committed to making these improvements this year:

  • More equipment on the road and larger areas covered more quickly.

  • Additional pick-up of collected snow around school zones.

  • More frequent residential maintenance which includes the grooming of snowpack.

  • Three new supplier-filled large sandbox sites for public access.

  • No bare pavement plowing in residential areas, which will reduce windrows and catch basin issues.

For Snow & Ice Challenges:

  • If you need support with removing snow and ice from your residential sidewalk, email communitysnowtogo@edmonton.ca.
Call the City of Edmonton at 311. 311 is the fastest method to respond to inquiries because the process is automated to directly route concerns to the correct yard for inspection and action.

  • Contact our office at 780-496-8142 or keren.tang@edmonton.ca if you have other feedback. We want to hear how you experience the changes this year.
